Girls’ Self Catering Weekend Mini-break Itinerary
A group of lovely girls who recently came down to Broadstairs to have some fun together have kindly shared their itinerary with us. it sounded so perfect we thought we’d write it up, to inspire other groups of ladies planning fun weekends together in the coming months…..
You won’t get a better location for a “hen weekend”, or girls get together of any kind, than our lovely Isle of Thanet on the East Kent coast – and our well appointed self catering holiday accommodation in Broadstairs is at the heart of all the fun things to do and see here.
Here follows an example outline of what your girls weekend away together could be:
Arrive Friday evening and head straight down to Peens Bar on the seafront in Broadstairs for some delicious cocktails and a bite to eat before strolling along the Parade to hear some live music at Harpers Wine Bar on Harbour Street till 11pm. Or pick one or two of the many other lovely bars and restaurants on offer. New places are opening up all the time like the stylish new Belgian Bar style, Fish and Beer, or upmarket burger focussed restaurant, Seggaris. All a stones throw from each other and the seafront.
Get up early on Saturday morning and enjoy cooking a good big breakfast together in your holiday home’s modern kitchen – you’ll need the energy because next, you’re going surfing! Book a lesson for your group with the lovely Joss Bay Surf School. Joss Bay is the top surfing beach in the South East and you will be in safe hands with the School’s instructors who are passionate about sharing their sport with beginners so will give you all the guidance you’ll need if you’ve never surfed before.
If surfing’s not your thing, arrange some relaxing treatments at the lovely Bannatyne Spa (pictured above).
You might like to walk from Joss Bay along the cliffs to the Captain Digby or Botany Bay Hotel for a spot of light lunch and enjoy breathtaking beaches and views.
In the afternoon, enjoy a mooch around the lovely shops of Margate Old Town together because you have a special dance class booked at Morgans Vintage Dance Hall and Coffee Lounge! Learn the Argentine Tango, Lindy Hop, Bollywood dancing or ’50s Rockabilly Jiving together. Morgan’s dance classes for small parties and hen parties are brilliant fun and the teachers there ensure everyone enjoys the experience.
After all that activity you will be ready for some refreshments while you’re there and you couldn’t be in a nicer spot. You will be either in the wood panelled Morgan’s Lounge, with glamorous chandeliers and comfy leather sofas or the beautiful top floor open dance space with french doors out to a glorious alfresco terrace overlooking the sweeping Margate Main Sands. Order up some tea and cake, cocktails or champagne could be a good accompaniment at this point. Sit back, drink in the view along with the refreshments and have a good old chat. You’ve earned yourselves a little rest!
Morgans can arrange for hair and make up artists to attend your group and get you all glammed up for a super night out in Margate Town where you can show off your newly acquired dancing skills and wow the locals. The Morgans staff will know what all the local venues are putting on for your Saturday night out so consider asking their advice on where to go and what to do on the weekend that you’re here. You might find yourselves in Underground or at the Ballroom in Dreamland, you might like to flit around to check out some of the other Old Town and seafront bars like the Glass Jar or come back to dance at Morgans after a yummy dinner, which could be:
Simple – fish and chips from Peter’s Fish Factory, eat them at an outside table in the Piazza or on the steps overlooking Margate beach (THE place to congregate and people watch as the sun sets in typical Margate spectacular style).
Mid range – book a table in the cafe at the Turner Contemporary, or one of the Harbour Arm restaurants like Bebeached, which will also have views of the sunset over the beach to die for.
or
Fancy – head to one of the top restaurants in Kent, The Ambrette, just behind the Old Town for a unique and exciting dining experience you won’t forget in a hurry – Indian meets haute cuisine dining with lots of special flourishes like amuse bouche for your table between courses.
These are all simply examples. You will have lots of other options to choose from should you take our suggestion and enjoy Saturday night out in Margate.
The Visit Thanet website will generally give you details of what special events are on when you’re going to be here so do check that out as it could affect and greatly enhance your plans!
On Sunday we think you’ll want to have a bit of a lie in then enjoy a good walk on the seafront, you could go over to Ramsgate and enjoy coffee in one of the many lovely cafes in the Royal Harbour Marina there. The Royal Harbour Brasserie at the end of the Harbour Arm or the new Archive Homestore cafe (Scandinavian style) compete with the much loved by locals Miles Bar. All are terrific and very different from each other. the Marina has some fun shops to browse too and you can walk back to Broadstairs seafront in just 40 minutes whenever you’re ready to think about packing up and heading home. If you don’t want to walk so far, forget Ramsgate and just come back in to the centre of Broadstairs when you’re ready to take the air. The Royal Albion Hotel, the little cafe on the jetty, or Wyatt and Jones are all lovely spots for that morning coffee and you can enjoy a gentle stroll round Viking Bay, perhaps taking in Stone Bay aswell.
A sniff of the sea, time with your best buddies. What a perfect way to end your weekend away together.
Now all you need is to book your place to stay! Check availability of our holiday lets in Broadstairs using the form on our home page, we have several comfortable and well equipped properties suitable for groups and we look forward to welcoming you soon.
