Frosted Fairground and more Festive Fun in Thanet!
The Festive season is nearly here and all across Thanet: Margate, Broadstairs and Ramsgate, there are lots of lovely things going on that will make our dear Isle an extra special place for a winter break around the Christmas and New Year period. Number one on the list is of course the Frosted Fairground at Dreamland!
You and your family, or group of friends, could be cosied up in one of our comfortable holiday lets in Broadstairs. Make the most of both the quieter beaches and some of the area’s great events and unique shopping opportunities. Let us take you on a Santa’s Sledge tour of the magic that awaits should you choose to stay with us on the East Kent coast to enjoy Christmas at the seaside!
Frosted fairground
Let’s start at Dreamland which is set to become the Frosted Fairground for the duration. As we’ve mentioned before, Dreamland has benefited from significant investment this year. It was recently featured on the BBC Children in Need broadcast from the park earlier this month, so if you haven’t been down, but perhaps saw that programme, you’ll have had a peek of how it’s looking these days and the new event areas. But oh! Each weekend and during the school holidays, from Saturday December 3rd right through till Wednesday 3rd January, it’s all change again as Dreamland comes over all frosty and magical for Christmas – even more so than last year!
what you’ll find at the fairground
For the first time they are going to have an ice rink, the only one in the area, so a major attraction for locals as well as visitors.
To further get you into the festive spirit the park will stage performances from their own staff entertainers, “the Fun Fairers”, local school choirs and community groups and musicians. Performances will take place at the bandstand and all over the park, popping up in unexpected places. Look out for pop-up panto, carol singing and Teddy and Betty’s Christmas Show. That’s just for starters. Visitors to the park will be invited to join in too, it will all be very interactive!
Climb into the secret story tent. Knock on the portable front door and find out what’s behind. Take the kids to Santa’s Grotto -then enjoy all the rides! All at off peak prices.
All that frosty fun could get chilly but never fear, Dreamland Undercover gets you indoors with a yuletide skate on the Roller Disco, a chance to play on the retro arcade machines and maybe win some stocking fillers. And for under 8’s there’s all the fun of The Octopus’s Garden, packed with extra winter wonder for the season.
There’s even a Vintage Market on the afternoon of 3rd December and a Vintage Tea Dance on 11th December.

other festive goings-on
Around the Isle Christmas Fairs are also taking place at:
- Pierremont Park in Broadstairs on 2nd December
- Addington Street in Ramsgate on 10 December
- Margate Old Town (Christmas Night Market) on 18th December
And don’t forget: The Christmas QuExperience at Quex Park in Birchington where you can meet ‘the Reinpacas’ (alpacas dressed as reindeers, very cute!) and join in lots of festive fun with the Quex Christmas Elves on the Quex estate.
There’s also the popular New Years Day dip at Viking Bay. This takes place at midday on 1st January – in support of the Children’s Liver Trust. Then there’s the Boxing Day swim from Ramsgate Main Sands. Both great to clear the head after all the other festive excitements. If you don’t quite feel that gung-ho, just take yourself off for a lovely long beach walk, any day during your holiday. Thanet’s 26 miles of coastline give you plenty to explore with a plethora of cosy coastal pubs to take a break and grab a bite to eat or liquid refreshment on the way. Check out the stunning Christmas lights on the boats in Ramsgate’s Royal Harbour any evening from the start of December.
