The British Open 2020 – cancelled.
All eyes will be fixed on East Kent in July 2020, when the world’s oldest golfing tournament takes place in Sandwich. The Royal St. George’s Golf Club will be hosting the Open Championship again and tickets are selling fast, reflecting the international popularity of the competition. Did you know that next year’s Open will be its 149th? The world-famous tournament began in 1860 at Scotland’s Prestwick Golf Club and continues to draw the crème de la crème of professional mens’ golfing. The romance of competing for the famous Claret Jug has attracted the likes of Jack Nicklaus, Seve Ballesteros, Nick Faldo, Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, all of whom have taken the top prize of course. This will be the 15th time the Open has come to Sandwich, the last being 2011 when the UK’s Darren Clarke putted his way to glory, famously fulfilling his childhood dream.
Royal St George’s Golf Club sits on East Kent coast sand dunes, between historic Sandwich and Pegwell Bay Country Park. Steeped in golfing history, the prestigious club was founded in 1887 and soon gained its excellent reputation as one of the best courses in the country. Its links layout allows Royal St George’s to boast spectacular coastal views and stunning sunsets alongside the play. For those lucky enough to have secured their tickets, the 2020 Open promises more history in the making.
