What’s On Summer 2015
Summer 2015’s programme of events across the Isle of Thanet – that’s Margate, Broadstairs, Ramsgate and the surrounding villages – looks set to be the most action packed in years.
Anyone planning a family holiday or few days away can be certain of discovering plenty to do and see in our corner of the Kent coast this summer.
Thanet has over 26 miles of sandy beaches, so even when there’s not much happening it’s a nice place to be but we thought you’d enjoy us sharing a bit of a run down of some of the key things going on this summer. We’ll also point you to where you can find out more about events that you can either plan a trip around or that might be on while you just happen to be here….
If you are looking for self catering accommodation for the duration of your holiday – from a few days to a week or two – check availability of our holiday properties here, then all you need is to just bring the beach towels and suntan lotion!
Some of our top 2015 summer season event highlights:
Dickens festival Broadstairs, Saturday 13th – Friday 19th June 2015
Charles Dickens visited Broadstairs regularly and immortalised the town as “Our English Watering Place”. Broadstairs comes alive in June with a festival celebrating Dickens and the Victorian way of life with lots of people in traditional costumes giving the town a uniquely historical feel.

Dreamland 2015 and beyond promises a perfect day out for old and young alike. Whether you want to relive the memories of your youth at Dreamland or you’re discovering it for the first time this year, visitors of any age are in for a treat.
Broadstairs Folk Week, 7th – 14th August
Folk Week celebrates it’s 50th year in 2015. Expect over 500 acts in venues all round town and plenty of lively folk-y action everywhere you look. Starting with the parade from Pierremont Park to the bandstand, with troops of Morris Dancers, Clarence the Dragon, the Hooden Horses and all, Folk Week is a very special time in Broadstairs and an experience music lovers will relish. Book your accommodation with us early if you want to be here while Folk Week is on. Check the website to find out who’s playing and what activities are on offer.
Ramsgate Festival, 29th August – 31st August
Previously known as Summer Squall, Ramsgate Festival gets bigger and better this year and with it’s new name. Expect lots of family friendly arts and shows around the Royal Harbour and there will be fireworks on the Sunday night.
There’s a lot more than this, too much for us to include in one post, but we hope by highlighting some of these major events we’ve helped to signpost the way to some summer highlights you might like to come and enjoy here in East Kent.
Check out the Visit Thanet what’s on pages where you can search according to the dates and type of event that is of most interest to you. We think you’ll be quite amazed when you see that what we’ve written about here is just the tip of the iceberg with a wide range of events large and small promising to make Broadstairs, Margate, Ramsgate – and Thanet as a whole – the perfect UK holiday destinations for summer 2015.
